Bio

Julian Göthe’s (*1966, Berlin, Germany) work - including monumental sculputes, detailed drawings, wall installations in rope and plaster relief - draws on historical references in design and art that destabilized symbols of power, the erotic charge of objects, and play with perspective and room construction. These elements condense into a network of formal, conceptual, and emotional references, between illusionism and theatricality, where three-dimensionality and flatness interpenetrate and dissolve.

Göthe's work has been exhibited at the Singapore Biennale, Singapore; KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, Germany; Migros Museum, Zurich and Kunsthalle Basel, Basel, Switzerland.  In 2024 he was commissioned to produce a new work for the Skulpturen Park Köln.

Since 2015, Göthe is a Professor for Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. The artist lives and works in Berlin and Vienna.
