Anja Manfredi lives and works in Vienna. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Eva Schlegel and Josephine Pryde (1999-2005). Prior to this, she graduated from the School for Artistic Photography under the direction of Friedl Kubelka (1998/99), whose artistic direction Manfredi took over in 2010. In 2022, she completed her doctorate "Geste im Bild" with Felicitas Thun-Hohenstein at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Institute for Art and Cultural Studies, and is a member of the Secession Vienna since 2016.

Anja Manfredi’s early oeuvre is characterised by an intensive intellectual and artistic engagement with the collection of gestures and their reenactment: immersed in emancipatory gesture and seismographically sensing the (artistic, cultural, political) zeitgeist. Her artistic works are poetic artefacts of the performative being in the world. Her early work was dominated by figurative arrangement and collage. More recently, there has been a move towards abstraction and installation.
